Imperial Hotel
Built in 1869 as the private residence of the duke of Württemberg and turned into a hotel in 1873, the Imperial Hotel is housed in an imposing, palatial building with a heroic frieze carved into the pediment below the roofline. The public areas are, as you would expect, extremely spacious and peerlessly opulent, being decked out with crystal chandeliers, pristine marble floors and columns, statues, Gobelin tapestries, period grandfather clocks and gilt mirrors. Though they vary significantly in size, due to the age of the building, the 183 air conditioned guestrooms are no less impressive. Their traditional décor includes antique rococo furnishings, silk wallpaper, original oil paintings, rich brocade curtains and marble bathrooms with heated floors. The hotel’s wood-panelled Imperial Restaurant harmoniously blends traditional Viennese cuisine with exotic cooking, offering delicious culinary creations. The secluded Maria Theresia Bar is equally elegant, while the Cafe Imperial serves specialities like Imperial Torte and Viennese coffee, accompanied by live piano music in the afternoons.
